Founder & Medical Director

I am a Naturopathic physician providing authentic Naturopathic and Integrative medicine with special interest, skill and experienced in the areas of nutritional, alternative and preventative medicine. I am also happily married to my wife Melinda and am the proud father of son Chasen and daughter Paige.

My career is very rewarding and for well over twenty years I have been assisting people to prevent disease, treat illness and improve health. I worked my way through school as a personal fitness trainer as I focused my attention on my undergraduate studies UNLV (University of Nevada Las Vegas) where I focused my attention upon Athletic Training and Exercise Physiology. Go “Runnin Rebels!”

That education led to a position as an orthopedic rehabilitation specialist and exercise/fitness consultant. I also served as the director of a post-surgical rehabilitation program in an out-patient physical therapy clinic that assisted people to recover while encouraging them to adopt healthy lifestyles and behaviors.

Those experiences led to a great appreciation of our body’s inherent ability to heal itself while also being confronted with the obvious and profound limitations of the conventional medical model. It was not uncommon for patients to be taking upwards of twelve to fifteen medications each day although those same patients kept wondering why they weren’t feeling and better! Most doctors seemed only to talk about drugs and surgery and rarely talked about diet, lifestyle, stress and other important factors.

Wanting to be a part of the solution rather than part of the problem, I applied to and was accepted at the progressive Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM) in Tempe, Arizona, where I received my doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine in the spring of 2001.

I am a member of HEAL (Human Ecology Action League), which is a non-profit organization for people affected by or concerned about environmental conditions that are hazardous to human health. Being active in the community is important to me and I enjoy voluteering my time and resources to organizations who maintain the strength and poise to remain true to their stated purpose.

Being a teacher and outspoken advocate of proactive, preventatively oriented medicine has allowed me to be featured on radio and TV while contributing articles for health related publications. A couple of books are in the works as I continue to lecture frequently about the extraordinary benefits that can be realized from utilizing the many treatment options that exist other than or in addition to, the standard and customary use of prescription medications and surgery.

Of course there is great value using prescription medication as I do write prescriptions when necessary. However, I feel very strongly that it is important to explore the intention behind the prescription. My clinical experience has revealed that the long term use of many medications is simply not necessary in most cases and unfortunately, most doctors prescribe drugs far too often without taking the time to explore the true underlying cause or causes of their patient’s health problems.

The indisputable fact remains that if medication were a solution for illness and disease, most illness and disease would have been eliminated many years ago.

Clinical experience has convinced me that the majority of disease and illness can effectively be treated by implementing my four exclusive steps:  IDNS:

1) Identify: investigate and identify existing deficiencies, imbalances and other underlying causes of illness and disease
2) Detoxify: remove from the body that which does not belong or may be causing dysfunction,
3) Nutrify: provide the body with what it is lacking, in the form of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids, water and oxygen, etc.
4) Standby: get out of the way and do not over treat! Allow the body the opportunity to rejuvinate and recuperate. This concept of IDNS is the topic of one of my forthcoming books.

This treatment approach has proven to be tremendously effective and efficient, frequently without the use of prescription medications that can be associated with side effects that are worse than the conditions they were intended to treat.

I created Arizona Prohealth, The Health Improvement Company, along with my wife Dr. Melinda Whitsell, with the goal of providing personalized, integrative and affordable medical and wellness care for the families of Arizona who are uninsured, underinsured, or have high deductable insurance plans. A recent community project is specifically designed to meet the needs of working parents and their employers by providing the only active Sick Child Day Care Program in the state of Arizona. Pro-Kids, Get Well Child Care, aka the”Sick Bay”.

The delivery of medicine should focus far beyond the standard and customary “disease” care model. It is my sincere hope that Arizona Prohealth may serve as a practical and logical medical model of “HEALTH” care to illustrate that healthcare costs can be contained, the overall health of our population can be improved and the incidence of chronic disease can be reduced by employing proactive, preventative medical and wellness methods.

As statistics and the increasing incidence of disease clearly reveal, it has become all too clear that our current ”DISEASE” care system is doing very little to improve the overall health of our population.

I am strongly compelled to direct, implement and promote the Arizona Prohealth model of authentic “health” care for the greater good of the people, businesses and communities of Arizona with the goal of preventing disease, treating illness and improving health while improving productivity in the most cost effective manner possible.
