Dr. Kirk Slagel, NMD, M.Ed.
Dr. Kirk Slagel is a strong advocate of natural medicine and wellness lifestyle management encompassing all areas of one’s life. Dr. Slagel has a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine; a Master’s of Education, a Bachelor of Science and has attained numerous certifications in outdoor skills, wilderness and emergency medicine. He believes the term doctor, from the Latin verb ‘docere’, which means teach, or instruct, is a foundational term of all medical practitioners and for optimal wellness, needs to be implemented more often during the patient visit.
Dr. Slagel has held a number of positions in various careers over the last 30 years. He has been an outdoor guide; a professional educator and leadership trainer; wilderness and emergency medicine instructor; father, doctor, public speaker and wellness educator. He became involved in medicine in 1989 as a Wilderness and Emergency Medicine instructor and ambulance attendant in northern New Hampshire. Dr. Slagel served as a volunteer on the New Hampshire White Mountain Backcountry Rescue Team and several ambulance services in the White Mountain area. He has had the opportunity to teach wilderness emergency medicine classes at Harvard, Dartmouth, Princeton, Yale, Cornell, Brown, Bates, Colby, Bowdoin, University of Vermont, Middlebury College, Georgia State University and a number of other colleges and universities. He also instructed wilderness medicine classes for the National Audubon Society, Outward Bound, NOLS, the Nantahala Outdoor Center, L.L. Bean, Eastern Mountain Sports Climbing School, Recreational Equipment Incorporated and all of the military Special Forces divisions.
Dr. Slagel served as the Medical Director of the U.S. Distributor of the German Isopathic/Homeopathic SANUM remedies from September of 2000 to January of 2009. This specialized form of natural medicine supports the foundational milieu and microbiological essence of life. He has published numerous articles on SANUM Therapy, developed and presented instructional clinical classes throughout the U.S., as well as provided webinars and injection therapy seminars for the Canadian SANUM Distributor. His public speaking pursuits have taken him extensively across the United States, Canada and Mexico at private locations, medical, dental and integrative medicine conferences.
Dr. Slagel’s focus of natural medicine is more broadly referred to as Biological Medicine. This comprehensive form of therapy originates in Europe and it is from his experience with the SANUM Company and European doctors that his philosophy and experience with natural medicine was widely expanded. Biological Medicine practitioners evaluate disturbances in the body from birth and include “teeth to toes” assessments! For example, many chronic illnesses are actually related to several basic factors including a lack or absence of breast feeding and thus, an improperly developed beneficial microbial population and immune system; introduction of refined foods in general and too early in life; and dental imbalances that are more aptly treated by a naturally trained ‘Biological Dentist”, to name a few.
With over seven years of clinical experience, presently Dr. Slagel is focusing on educational wellness programs for patients and doctors. As a seasoned lecturer and group dynamic facilitator in outdoor skills, leadership training and an international instructor of natural medicine, Dr. Slagel offers enthusiastic, lively and informative wellness programs interspersed with pertinent spirit, humor and wisdom!
