For working parents missing a few days at the job because of a sick child may not be an option. Cronkite News reporter June Bulnes tells us of a new service here in the valley that could help those parents.

Sick child day care offers solution for East Valley Parents
A sick child can mean a dilemma for parents. Do they send the child to school? Do they call in sick to work themselves? Tess Rafols found a place that offers a solution for parents in the East Valley. It’s called Pro-Kids Get Well Childcare Center, and it’s exactly what it sounds like – day care for sick kids.

Daycare for Sick Children Sees High Demand
It’s a dilemma for a lot of parents. Your child gets sick, he can’t go to school, and daycare won’t accept sick children. So a parent has to take time off work to care for their sick child — but there is another option. “So many parents will call up, they’ll wake up in the morning and their son will have a fever or earache or a bellyache or something, and they’ll call up and see if we have space available and they can just bring them on down,” says Dr. Eric Hampton.

Parents with sick kids in the East Valley have a new option when they need care.
Gilbert-based Arizona ProHealth LLC has partnered with Maxwell Preschool Academy in Mesa to open a “sick bay,” housed in a separate part of the school. Ill children will be cared for by a licensed caregiver, such as a licensed nurse practitioner. Dr. Eric R. Hampton, a family practice physician for 10 years, is the founder of the program.

Despite the closure of sick-child care centers at two Valley hospitals, a Gilbert doctor is venturing into the business and plans to franchise the concept nationally. Dr. Eric Hampton, founder and medical director of Arizona Prohealth LLC, opened his second sick-child care center this week. The first one opened in January.

Hampton, who owns, with his physician wife, a family practice in Gilbert called Arizona Prohealth. That practice is the parent of Pro-Kids.
