Prescription Medication
7,000 deaths occur each year due to medication errors in hospitals!
12,000 deaths occur each year due to unnecessary surgery!
20,000 deaths occur each year due to other hospital errors!
80,000 deaths occur each year due to nosocomial (this word pertains to a hospital or infirmary) infections in hosptials!
106,000 deaths occur each year due to adverse effects of properly prescribed medications!
This equals 225,000 deaths due to “iatrogenic” causes, which means that these deaths were caused by surgeons, hospitals, drug prescribing physicians and prescription medication. Iatrogenic causes are the third leading cause of death behind Heart Disease and Cancer!
These statistics were published in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and was originally written by Barbara Starfield, MD, MPH.
So What Can You Do? Do your best to avoid taking prescription medications, avoid surgery and stay out of the hospital because that is where the sick people are! (That being said, please do not stop your medications without the guidance of a skilled physician).
Drugs are important, they have saved lives and help people in many ways by managing symptoms of disease and illness. However it is important to note that disease and illness are not caused by a deficiency of prescription medication.
We regularly help people manage their drugs and we even prescribe them on occasion. But we are most successful at helping people get off of all those drugs. We also feel very strongly that most doctors prescribe medication far too often without taking the time to discover the real reason people become sick. It is usually not the doctor’s fault, for they actually do not know any better. Most doctors are only trained to prescribe medication and would not have a clue about how to treat someone if they did not have a PDR and a Rx Pad.
There are many safe and effective treatments available for most all conditions that are not associated with drug related adverse side effects. Why take a second drug just to treat the side effects of the first? This approach is not “Health” care at all, it is technically “Disease” care. Drugs are fine for short periods of time to get things under control, but in most cases the long term use of drugs is simply not necessary.
In order to experience REAL healthcare it is important to visit a physician who is trained and experienced in the use of medication. But it is much more important to visit a physician who is also trained and experienced in Integrative medicine. This type of medicine combines the best of naturopathic, homeopathic and conventional medical methods for optimal benefits and results.
